This sit or stand mixed mobility dance class will get you to groove and sway to the sounds of Brazilian drumming, Cha-Cha-Cha, Salsa, Swing and Waltz. Each session includes a rhythmic but gentle warm-up followed by dance elements that can all be done seated. Walkers, wheelchairs or chairs are welcome.
Katya Kuznetsova is a dance artist on a mission to facilitate enjoyable dance experiences for everybody, regardless of skill level or variations in physical ability. Originally from the Russian Far East, she began dancing at the age of eight with Tanzgracia Ballroom Dance Company. Several cultural exchange tours in the early nineties brought her to Anchorage, Alaska, where she lived and worked for twelve years, becoming one of the leaders in dance education and community engagement through the arts. While on faculty at the University of Alaska Department of Theatre and Dance, she also founded Ritmovida Dance Partnership with a focus on bringing people together through social dance classes, performances and workshops across the state. Since moving to Toronto, Canada in 2009 and earning a Master of Fine Arts in Dance Dramaturgy and Choreography, she has founded the Dance Together Project with a focus on partner dance for beginners and mixed mobility dance workshops for Wheel Dance, Canadian National Institute for the Blind, and retirement residencies around the GTA. Katya also co-produces the Dance Together Festival with her fellow artist Kate Nankervis,
