Vogue 101 with Danah Rosales

This workshop is an introduction to ballroom through one of today’s most well-known ballroom categories, performance, also known as Vogue. Vogue is as highly stylized freestyle dance birthed from house music and the queer spaces in the 1980’s. This beginner workshop will journey through the evolution and history of Vogue, embody the energy and attitude of extravagance and opulence that is purposely exaggerated, the art of selling, as well as the elements of Vogue Femme. Hands performance, catwalks, duckwalks, floor performance and spins and dips!

Danah Rosales (She/Her/Siya) is a Tkaronto based queer millennial; second-generation Canadian-Filipin*; a daughter; a dawta; a sister; a sis; a cis; a mother of two little humans; a motha of a kiki house; and an artist in which her work encompasses teaching, community leadership, collaborative and interdisciplinary choreography and performance. Maldita Siriano 007 is dedicated to increasing the visibility, history, and future of the Canadian ballroom community. She continues to develop herself as a ballroom artist for the mainstream scene, as a Kiki House Mother and as an active community member within the Toronto Kiki Ballroom Alliance.

*This workshop is free. Each participant must pre-register to ensure we meet physical distancing and contact tracing guidelines.
